Today’s work environment is no longer based within the confinement of the office. With more people away on business, working from home, working on the move or working from remote sites the requirement for security enforced 24/7 access from anywhere is now a necessity.

If you look in any enterprise sector today, there are business drivers for mobility, and the need to access data securely whilst not being limited to location or even time.

This is no truer than in the world of the Sales Representative. For example let’s look at Estate Agents, always out of the office, always on the go. Having the ability to manage admin, sales or other business related tasks from any location at anytime means there is more time to make money which at the end of the day is a goal everyone can relate too.

Aruba’s remote access point has been specifically designed for this purpose and can automatically create an ultra secure tunnel back to the corporate switch from anywhere in the world. So if you’re away from the office you can still access your company’s resources and have all the benefits of being at your desk without actually being there at all.

A remote Aruba AP communicates with an Aruba mobility controller using the IPSec protocol, widely trusted for deploying virtual private network (VPN) connections across the internet. This standards based end to end encryption support enables a remote AP to be plugged directly into an internet-connected DSL router, eliminating the need for a mobility controller to be installed at the remote location.

With remote users who have VPN clients, the network administrator often has to support or troubleshoot a non-corporate client device. A remotely connected Aruba AP operates independently of the remote network, requiring no maintenance, troubleshooting or reconfiguration of existing networks.

A remote Aruba AP is so easy to deploy that a mobile executive can simply plug it into a DSL router, cable modem or other broadband connection in their home or at a remote location. The remote AP automatically contacts the corporate mobility controller, authenticates, self configures and begins operation. If the broadband connection is behind a firewall, the remote AP uses it’s built in NAT-T capability to connect to the corporate mobility controller without requiring any user intervention.

No critical information is stored on a remote Aruba AP. In the event that the AP is lost or stolen, no vital security information is compromised and the AP can simply be disabled by the administrator.

Aruba’s ‘split horizon’ feature means the remote access points can be configured to locally bridge all traffic on selected SSID’s, thereby allowing access to local resources without tunnelling all traffic back to the main site. This is enabled by performing encryption and decryption on the access points, rather than the mobility controller, for these selected SSID’s. These SSID’s can also be used as a backup for providing network access if the link to the main site is lost.

Aruba Wireless Networks offers several benefits and advantages over the likes of Cisco and other competitors such as the Remote Access Point, 2nd generation chip set ‘N’ standard ratification, VoIP Quality Of Service Module and of course the Policy Enforcement Firewall.
